Per Weight Unit Shipping
Per Unit Weight (kg) means WooCommerce calculates shipping for each product separately based on its weight.
For example, if you charge $2 per kg and a customer buys:
- 1 item weighing 3 kg → $6 shipping
- 2 items weighing 2 kg each → $8 shipping
This method is ideal when shipping costs scale directly with item weight.
Setting Up Per-Weight Unit Shipping In Shipping Manager
First, navigate to WooCommerce > Settings and then click Shipping. Now, you can see that two zones have been created already. Click Edit to customize the shipping rules of that zone and apply a shipping fee based on per-unit weight (kg).

In the next section, you will see the available shipping methods. You can also create a new shipping method by clicking the Add Shipping Method button. Now, click the Edit button to add or customize the shipping rules.

Now, you can view the shipping rules available on the list and select Per Unit Weight (kg) from the list.

After selecting Per Unit Weight (kg), set the shipping fee for products per unit (kg). We’ve set the shipping fee at $15.

The products in your shop must have a weight value since we are selecting the per-unit weight-based shipping. Now, go to Products > All Products and click Edit to set a weight for.

Scroll down a bit and click Shipping, and set the weight value. We’ve set the weight to 5kg for this instance. Then scroll up and click the Update button.

Now, go to the shop page and select a product from the shop. We’ve added a product to the cart and then clicked View Cart.

Now, if you go to the cart page, you can see that the delivery or shipping cost is $75. This is because we’ve set the unit weight cost as $15, and the product weight is 5kg.
So, the shipping cost becomes per unit weight (5kg) * Shipping Fee ($15) = Delivery ($75). Ultimately, the subtotal ($12) + Shipping fee ($75 ) = Total $87.

Now, let’s add two similar products to the cart, which makes the per-unit weight 10kg. So, the shipping fees become per unit weight (10 Kg) * Shipping fee ($15) = $150.

Let’s say you’ve set multiple similar shipping rules as per unit weight (kg).

Add a similar product to the cart and view the cart details to understand them details.
Now, if you go to the cart page, you can see that the delivery or shipping cost is $175. This is because the Total per unit weight shipping fee ($ 15 + $ 20) * per unit weight (5kg) = Total Delivery Fee $175.
