Set up Shipping Fees Settings

Overview: Setting up the right shipping fees is crucial when presenting error-free shipping costs. The Shipping Manager plugin gives you precise cost calculations. This helps merchants to implement fair, transparent, and efficient pricing strategies.

Shipping Manager comes with the following Shipping fee calculation methods:

Unit Weight Fee: This feature allows store owners to apply a fixed charge for every product at their WooCommerce store. So, you can use a flat rate for each unit of weight, representing a precise and predictable cost. It's ideal for merchants who want consistent shipping costs for lightweight or heavy products.

Example: A store sells bags of coffee beans weighing 1 kg. The business sets a shipping fee of $2 per kg. If a customer orders 3 kg, the total shipping fee would be $6 (3 × $2). This ensures proportional pricing based on weight and allows businesses to maintain consistent and accurate cost calculations.

Weight Range Pricing: This feature allows you to set tiered pricing according to various weight ranges. Defining weight ranges will help you offer fair and transparent pricing that customers can easily understand. It is also beneficial when it comes to maintaining a cost-effective shipping fee according to weight brackets.

Example: An electronics store defines the following shipping rate structure based on weight brackets:

0 – 5 kg: $5

6 – 10 kg: $10

11 – 20 kg: $15

If a customer orders a package weighing 7 kg, they would pay $10 in shipping fees. This method provides clarity for customers while allowing businesses to control costs effectively.

Configure Shipping Fees Settings

Start by clicking the Shipping Manager plugin from the left-hand side dashboard panel. Then click the Shipping Fees option.

You can see the following options under the Shipping Fees Settings section:

  • Disable / Enable

  • Taxable

  • Charges (Unit Weight Fee / Weight Ranges Fee )

  • Save Changes Button (To Apply the changes)

Now we will explore each option so that you can easily configure the Shipping Fees.

Disable/ Enable Option

You can turn on the Sheeping Fees feature with this button. Enabling this button will allow the shipping manager plugin to handle the shipping fees across your website. Otherwise, the default WooCommerce-based shipping features will work.

Click the Save Settings button to implement any changes you’ve made in the plugin.

Taxable

You cannot change the taxable option from the Shipping Fees settings. By enabling the taxable option, the shipping cost will be calculated with added tax. Disabling the option will count only the shipping fees in the total cost, excluding the tax amount.

However, go to Settings to configure the Taxable settings. Here, you can change the taxable option (Yes or No). After changing the taxable option, click the Save Settings button for the Taxable option to take effect.

Charges

This option allows you to set the shipping fees based on the Unit Weight Fee and Weight Range Fee. Now, take a look at how you can configure each option to set a shipping fee

Unit Weight Fee

Unit Weight Fee allows you to determine shipping fees per kg or per unit of product. Let’s say we’ve set the shipping fee at $10 per unit/kg. Then, click the Save Settings button.

Note: Make sure that the enable button is turned on. Otherwise, the shipping fees won’t work.

Now, go to the product page or shop page of your store and select any product that you prefer.

Then, click edit product and go to customize the product information of that individual product.

Product Data section and select Shipping. Now provide the amount of Weight. Next, click the Update button to implement the changes.

Go back to your shop page in the front end and navigate to the product that you just updated. Then click the Add to Cart button below the product to include it in your cart.

Now, go to the checkout page and remember that we’ve set the flat rate as $10 and the product weight to 2 kg. As you can see, the Shipping fee of $20 (Weight 2kg * shipping fee $10) is set within the shipping options.

In the Order Summary, you can see the entire breakdown of the pricing and the total cost. The total cost becomes $33.20, which consists of product cost ($12.00 ), Delivery/Shipping cost ($20.00), and Tax ($1.20)

Weight Range Fee

This feature allows you to set specific price points for different weight ranges. Here, we will set specific ranges and prices for those ranges.

For example, we’ve set the following prices for different weight ranges:

From

To

Fee

1 kg

5 kg

$10

6 kg

10 kg

$15

11 kg

15 kg

Now, click the Save Settings button after setting the price for different ranges. Then go to the Shop page and select a product.

.

Go to the individual product editing section from the Product section of WooCommerce.

Set different weight values for several products. As you can see, we’ve set the weight value to 2kg for the product.

Now we will see the weight-based price in action through the cart page. Add the product to the cart and go to checkout to view the cart page.

Here, you will see the $10 added as the shipping fees, which is indicated as delivery in the order summary.

Similarly, for the same product, we are now setting the weight value to 8kg. Remember, we’ve set the price to $15 for the weight range of 6 kg- 10 kg. Let’s not forget to click the Update button to update the provided information.

Now, add this product to the cart and view the checkout page. As you can see, the shipping fees are now set to $15 since the product's weight is set to 8 kg, which falls under the weight range of 6 kg- 10 kg.
